Not only do modifiers improve your customer experience, but they are also a chance for you to up-charge, add additional items and increase ticket size. As an example, according to our 2024 Restaurant Online Ordering Trends Report, a side of french fries was the #1 item ordered on DoorDash in the US in 2023.
As you build your DoorDash menu, adding modifiers is a great way to boost sales and customer satisfaction.
What is a modifier?

A modifier is an option for customers to add to or change a specific item. There are a couple of different ways to incorporate modifiers into your DoorDash menu, some examples include:
Adding a side, dessert, or drink to any entree
Offering toppings or other additions (like extra protein) to items like salads, bowls, burgers
Providing multiple size options to choose from
You can add modifiers to your menu in the Menu Manager in the Merchant Portal in two ways:

Underneath Items, use the search bar to find which menu items you want the new modifier available for.
You can also add different options for the modifier, such as size, spice level, etc., and specific prices for pick up and delivery.
Note: Any price amount added to the Modifier Options will be added as an up-charge to the selected item.Under Rules, you can choose whether choosing a modifier is required, or if people can choose multiple options.
If desired, you can add Nested Modifiers for more precise selections such as like the amount of an add-on, or different flavor of an add-on.

What is a nested modifier?

At the top of the Menu Manager, toggle over to the Modifiers tab
