The scope of delivery options vary by jurisdiction. All retailers are encouraged to consult their retail permit and local laws to confirm whether off-premises delivery is permitted and, if so, for what types of beverages and under what conditions.
In states with strict county wet/dry laws, such as Kentucky and Texas, alcohol delivery is limited to and from specific areas. Please contact our team for more information.
If you’re a restaurant, log in to add alcohol to your offerings. Availability of wine, beer, and spirits delivery for restaurants varies by local state and province regulations. In addition, some states require food to be purchased with alcohol orders.
Dashers go through a 3-step compliance check prior to completing an alcohol delivery. That includes a physical ID check to match the ID against the recipient and to check that the ID is legitimate, an intoxication check to help ensure the recipient does not display signs of intoxication, and an ID scan that leverages advanced technology to help further legitimize whether an ID is valid. Provided those 3 steps are successful, the Dasher is then prompted to complete the delivery. If any of those 3 steps fail, that then triggers the alcohol return flow during which the Dasher is provided with step-by-step prompts back to the retailer in order to return the product. Dashers are paid extra for completing a successful return.
On the customer side of the experience, Customers must attest to be of legal drinking age prior to checking out and also that they will be present, provide a legitimate ID, and not be intoxicated at the time of delivery. Customers receive repeated reminders as to these obligations, helping to ensure that each customer is well aware of their obligations when ordering alcohol for delivery through DoorDash.
Alcohol retailers work with available, eligible Dashers to deliver wine, beer, and spirits to local customers.
Dashers must be of legal drinking age to be assigned an alcohol order, usually at least 21 years of age.
Some jurisdictions have additional requirements for Dashers, such as an alcohol safety module. In these jurisdictions, DoorDash has policies in place to help ensure only eligible Dashers who have completed those steps are assigned to alcohol delivery orders.
Customers are able to find and browse your store on DoorDash Marketplace or your own website with Online Ordering, and select items to purchase — similar to any other DoorDash order. At checkout, however, the customer must attest to being of legal drinking age, and is also served other alcohol-specific terms. These terms state that the customer must be present at delivery, not be intoxicated, and will present a valid government ID prior to receiving the order.
Once the Dasher arrives, the customer presents their government ID which is scanned by the Dasher to verify the age of the recipient. Dashers are prompted to not deliver the order if the customer is not of legal drinking age, their ID is expired, the photo doesn’t match the person, or they appear to be intoxicated.
Only customers who are of legal drinking age in the jurisdiction, are present during delivery, have a valid non-expired photo ID, and are not visibly intoxicated are eligible to buy alcohol through DoorDash.
DoorDash facilitates a variety of alcohol deliveries, including liquor delivery, beer delivery, and wine delivery. Whether you’re a wine shop looking for a wine delivery service, or a convenience store looking to partner for quick liquor delivery in your area, DoorDash has you covered.
